Ridgewood NJ - July 4th Parade & Fireworks Slideshow

There is simply nothing like the Fourth of July in Ridgewood. It’s exhilirating and quaint at the same time. Hundreds of people set up empty chairs days in advance from Godwin Ave to E. Ridgewood Ave, then all the way to Linwood Ave to reserve their favorite spot to watch the parade. Some don’t have to go very far because the parade passes right in front of their house! From fire departments of all the neighboring towns to World War II veterans to seven year-old baton twirlers, the Ridgewood parade has it all.

But before the parade, there is the traditional flag-raising ceremony. This year, Taylor Magrath, who just graduated from Ridgewood High School, gave an eloquent speech and Jim Roth sang as the flag was about to make its way up the flagpole at Wilsey Square. Philanthropist David Bolger served as grand marshal.

The parade was two full hours of marching bands, music, antique cars, clowns, veterans and elementary school floats. It was pure Ridgewood pride!

Later that evening, thousands of people filled Veterans Field behind the Village Hall. Four “Fallin’ Angels” skydivers came soaring down toward the field but only three made the target! An announcement was made that the fourth skydiver landed on a residential street about a half-mile away! The skydivers signaled the beginning of the annual fireworks display by July 4 Ever. It was simply breathtaking.

If you’re looking for small-town charm and big-city fireworks, Ridgewood is the place to be.

Special thanks to Gary Schulze and the Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee for allowing me to photograph the parade.

Please turn up your speakers and enjoy highlights from the 99th Annual Ridgewood Fourth of July parade and fireworks.

Looking forward to the 100th Anniversary next year!!!
