Second time around

I had the pleasure of catching up with Leslie and Steve again in New York City to photograph their green-tongued kids. Green-tongued kids??? That’s right!

Note to self: Remind parents to refrain from giving their kids green lollipops before the shoot. :)

Earlier this year, Leslie and Steve received a session as a gift from Leslie’s mom who was the highest bidder in a silent auction. Her mom is on the board of a terrific charity to which I donated a session for their 25th anniversary fundraiser. NAC (New Alternatives for Children) helps hundreds of chronically-ill kids in foster care in NYC, so please remember them for your future charitable giving. Leslie and Steve were kind enough to ask me back to their apartment to shoot some holiday card photos of the kids.

We started in the courtyard, and their daughter started sneezing. I don’t normally show kids their photos on the back of my camera, but I had to show them this. It was too cute. They had a REALLY good laugh.

Then we headed up to their apartment. Their son was cracking up on the terrace!

Their daughter was getting a little tired and took a break. I like when the kids take breaks because then I can photograph them when they’re completely relaxed. She wasn’t really sleeping… I think she was trying to hide from me!

Looking very dignified!

The happy, cuddly kids.

Thanks again Leslie and Steve! It was great to see you again and photograph your happy family.

Thinking ahead

Amanda learned about me from her good friend Maggie. Amanda called me back in July to say she was going to have a baby in August and wanted to schedule a session for the fall. As we talked, I kept referring to the upcoming baby as “her” and “she.” Amanda laughed because she said everyone was predicting that this baby would be a girl. So, as Amanda’s due date approached in August, I e-mailed Maggie to ask if she had heard anything about Amanda’s new baby. Maggie quickly replied, “She’s in labor right now!”

Guess what she had? An adorable girl…

That little man in the above picture was giving me some serious photographic competition. He must have shot about 50 pictures of me in the two hours I was there (now I know how it feels). But, most of all, he loved taking pictures of his new, little sister.

I love this image of David peeking in on Amanda’s quiet moment with the baby.

Next door, I got to meet a very special friend of their son. The very-much-loved, “Bear.” I love how the bright sun is streaming into his room to match his bright smile! He was smiling the WHOLE time. Except when he was taking pictures, that is! Then, he was all business.

I’m never sure how parents feel about their kids jumping on the furniture but, as you can see, Amanda and David seem OK with it. :)

After all that jumping, it was time for a quick snack. Guess which is the most popular drawer in the whole house? I think I can spot Goldfish, Cheese Nips, Nutter Butter, and pretzels… not to mention all of those upside down snacks! Imagine what that drawer looks like the day after Halloween.  :)

And it just wouldn’t be a family photo session without some tickling…

… and a little running. Sometimes if Mom and Dad are good I let them join in the famous Matt Richman Photography Running Shot! David was very good. :)

Congratulations on your baby girl, Amanda and David! And thank you Maggie for referring Amanda during my Send-A-Friend promotion. Maggie now has a gift credit toward her next session. I hope to see you all again soon!

What a gift!

This is proof that Matt Richman Photography Gift Certificates are the best gift of all! Carla and David received a photo session as a gift from their friends in Ridgewood. And what a gift it was! We had a great time last weekend. The best part (aside from their cute kids!) was that Carla and I discovered that we both had season tickets to Cosmos soccer games when we were kids. We were probably standing in the same line for a super-salty, stadium hot dog and never even knew it! But enough about me… let’s see some pictures.

Their older son was all smiles from the moment we started. This is one of the first pictures of the morning. I knew we were off to a great start.

I love this one with David and his middle son. As you can see, they were having a very intense conversation. :)

The famous Matt Richman Photography Running Shot with the help of some fall foliage…

This one cracks me up every time I see it!

Fall really arrived last weekend and It was actually colder than it looks in these pictures. So, we headed inside for a quick break. This picture is something most people wouldn’t think of as something special, but I like it because it’s real. Any time I can capture something as it’s happening, it helps tell the story of the day.

David was a great sport when the kids sat on him. But that’s what dad’s are for, right? I love how the middle one is trying to turn the baby’s head toward me. The baby is staring at a video game which, of course, was much more fascinating than a guy lying on the floor taking pictures.

We popped back outside to get a fun family picture. I love the famous Matt Richman Photography Tickling Shot…

The baby wasn’t very ticklish, but he was a little hungry, so Carla brought him in for some food. This picture is another one of those “real” pictures that make you feel like you’re right there with them.

Some special storytime with mom…

And then into the (delicious) crib for some quiet time…

Thanks for getting up early on a Sunday, Carla and David! And thank you, Danielle, for giving them such a special gift!

Fall Fun in CT!

You can’t beat Connecticut in autumn. The foliage is great, and so are the friends. My friends Danielle and Jed asked me to come photograph their adorable girls last weekend. The sun was just right and so were the leaves.

The girls were totally natural in front of the camera. They made my job easy!

However, trying to get three energetic girls to take a slow stroll in the backyard was a bit of a challenge. I don’t think kids even know what the word stroll means!

The famous Matt Richman Photography Running Shot gets a little tricky with three kids. Especially when they run in different directions (notice which way my little friend in the pink shirt is going!). Needless to say, three seconds later she was on the other side of the backyard!

And now the famous Matt Richman Photography Tickling Shot! I haven’t met one kid yet who doesn’t like to get tickled.

Thanks everybody! We had a great time!
